GFWC Operation Smile Miami: We Build Hope, One Blanket at a Time (Gallery)
The Paz Foundation is proud to spotlight and support the incredible community effort known as GFWC Operation Smile Miami. This initiative is more than just a volunteer day; it’s a powerful partnership between local women’s clubs and the international medical charity, Operation Smile, dedicated to bringing comfort and dignity to children with cleft conditions worldwide.
What is GFWC Operation Smile Miami?
At its heart, it’s a profound collaboration between local chapters of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC)—including the dedicated members of The Miami Woman’s Club and the Coral Gables Woman’s Club—and Operation Smile. The core mission is to support the surgical journeys of children by creating essential comfort items.
These acts of kindness include two main activities:
- No-Sew Fleece Blankets: Volunteers create soft, comforting blankets designed to provide warmth and reassurance to children undergoing treatment.
- Smile Bags: Carefully stitched bags filled with important items that support the children’s surgical and recovery process.
These small, tangible acts bring hope and direct support to children across the globe who might otherwise lack access to life-changing care.
Reliving the Day of Service: September 12, 2025
The movement culminated in a dedicated Day of Service on September 12, 2025, hosted by The Miami Woman’s Club at their location (1737 N Bayshore Dr, Miami, FL 33132). The goal was ambitious: to craft blankets for 300 patients. This event brought together volunteers in a collective effort to build hope, stitch by stitch.
A highlight of the day was the participation of Armando Paz, Guest Speaker & Cleft Advocate, who shared his powerful and life-changing personal story. His testimony reminded every volunteer of the direct and human impact of their service.
